Following Jesus

First and foremost our Christian discipleship is about our personal pursuit of God. Jesus said to his disciples, “Come follow me”.

We can be beguiled into measuring our discipleship by our church attendance, or by the amount of money we give away or the ministries we serve in. All of this is a mistake. True discipleship is a matter of the heart. It was only after Jesus said, “Come follow me” that he said, ”And I will make you fishers of men” Matthew 4:19.

Church attendance, giving and serving are the marks of growth in discipleship, not the primary means of it. We involve ourselves in them because we are learning to love Jesus, not because we have something to prove or to gain.

Lasting motivation, courage and commitment for these things can only be found as we develop our personal heart to heart relationship with Jesus, spending time with him and learning from him.

“Take my yoke upon you and LEARN FROM ME.....” Matthew 11:29
